DescriptionSergio Aragonés' Groo the Wanderer made his debut in 1982 in a story in the anthology comic Destroyer Duck #1, a fundraising effort to help Steve Gerber in a battle for the ownership of Howard the Duck.Groo may have been a backup that day, but he has headlined hundreds and hundreds of comics and has met many historic figures like Tarzan, Greek Gods, Conan, and who knows who/what else. But he has never met anyone like the fabulous team of Sugar and Spike. In this scene, S&S meet Groo and company somewhere between issues 92 and 93 of the Epic Comics series Sergio Aragonés Groo the Wanderer. In those issue, Groo and most of the crew get "babyfied." As you might expect, it involves the discovery of the fountain of youth and its destruction (there's a lot of destruction in Groo comics). As you can tell, the kids are confused by their appearing in the middle of this odd assortment of characters (or is it an assortment of odd characters?). I suspect that Bernie the Brain made a mistake like the one that had them meet the Muppet Babies on an earlier cover. I've wanted a commission from Sergio for some time. I got close twice. So, close he called me about it (and I thought it was Sergio our handyman at first). The second time, I got a quote, but I didn't have the money. Then, I decided to start selling comics and some of the proceeds went here. Starting in the upper left, moving clockwise in an inward spiral, we have most of the Groo crew:
Sergio can be found on Facebook on the Aragonés Cartoons. The page is run by his daughter Christen and the transaction was smooth. Social/Sharing |

This is a pure delight. Well worth any comics you may have sold to help get it.

Alex, I love all your Sugar And Spike 100 covers but this one stands above the rest! Just the layout alone takes me back to my early days of reading MAD Magazine and enjoying Sergio's marginals. And, Sergio is not only a superb cartoonist but a hell of a nice guy to boot. Congrats on a great addition to the collection!

When Aragones is on and loves the theme and subject matter, he can keep adding to the artwork just by impulse! A stellar demonstration of this effect!
