DescriptionThis piece essentially marks the end of the original Eastman & Laird run. 1988 was a pivotal time in the world of the TMNT: the comics were doing awesome, the cartoon and toy lines were gaining steam, and movie talks involving Jim Henson were taking form. E&L simply did not have the time to run an empire and draw comics at the same time. They needed help from other artists to keep the book going, but before turning over the reins, they compiled all of their TMNT comics up to that point into one mammoth 540 page volume. They made two versions: a softcover black and white by Laird and this hardcover painting by Eastman. And it wasn’t just a regular wrap around cover either; it was actually a removable dust jacket cover. To this day, this hardcover is one of the most desired of all Turtles books. Pencils, Inks, Paints all on one board. An incredible combination considering how normally for their covers, they did a Pencils & Inks piece, photocopied that, then painted the copy, creating essentially two original covers for the finished piece. This gem is all in one and I love it! Social/Sharing |

The book is in the next room. As often happens with me and Eastman's originals, I do think I like the printed, more muted dark print of the cover than the vibrant original art colors. But this is an amazing piece of my youth. I remember this might have been the first $100 book I ever bought myself. very fond memories wrapped up in its contents. A total nostalgia trip and a primo bit of comics history.

Such a cool early TMNT Eastman piece. The green color really stands out too, a perfect turtle shade!
