CARDY - National Lampoon 68 ( Nov 1975 ) - Trail of Tears satire
If there was ever an example of comics just before political correctness, this could be it. Although I guess it's supposed to be satire. There are American Indian (i.e. Native Americans) sterotypes galore in this meandering story.
On top of that, the "Trail of Tears" became the "Trail of Tiers".
In any case "The Trail of Tears" is one of the most tragic episodes in US history.
From the November 1975 issue of National Lampoon, here's Nick Cardy's art to "Trail of Tiers", written by Brian McConnachie.
Each page has the color guide as a additional image. By a strange coincidence, one time I was visiting Nick and he had the color guides at his drawing table. He graciously allowed me to take them home.
