You know, I never read Animal Man beyond the first few issues, and I was never a fan of Truog' art, but I'm glad I clicked on this to see it at full size because it's a really fun looking page, and it once again proves how the right inker can make some penciller's really shine! Congrats, Malvin!

"Deus Ex Machina" is one of those issues that has stuck with me through the years. To Ruben's point, I think Truog was a solid storyteller whose clean, stylistically generic art kept the story grounded as Morrison wove in and out of the comic book's superheroic, political and metafictional elements, and this page contains a little bit of all three. I sometimes wonder if the book would have worked as well as it did or how it would have been changed if a stylistically stronger artist like Frank Quitely had been paired with Morrison during his run. (PS I only noticed the Arkham Assylum poster on the wall in panel 2 when I clicked onto the large scan of the page. Heh.)

Animal Man was so modern and old, funny and tragic, brilliant and smart. A way to talk about nowadays problem and to have "interaction" between our real world and the one in the comic books. This page is a perfect example. Morisson & Truog: a couple of geniuses!!! Lovely pick!
