DescriptionThis Daniel Warren Johnson 6x9 illustration is a piece of pure, adrenaline-fueled nostalgia..I probably wasn’t mature enough to watch the Road Warrior when it debuted theatrically in 1982. I definitely wasn’t old enough. But I knew I wanted to see it and my mom took me to the theater and even theater-hopped to watch another (quieter) movie while I spent the next couple of hours with Mad Max. Needless to say, the Road Warrior became my favorite movie of 1982 and that’s saying something in a summer that also included Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, Blade Runner, and John Carpenter’s The Thing. I must’ve seen it at least a dozen times since. So when Felix Lu opened up a small sketch list for DWJ’s Bay Area signing, I knew he’d do Max justice. DWJ did more than do justice to Max, though. He knocked it out of the park (and even squeezed in Max’s dog). Thanks Dan and Felix for the opportunity. Social/Sharing |

Now all you have to do is get A Wrath of Khan work done by him. They are two of my favourite movies.I just realised that the second movies were better than movies one or three.

Wrath of Khan? I'm definitely intrigued by that possibility. I'm sure DWJ would kill it.

Awesome commission! Every element in this is fantastic, including that post-apocalypic sky

That car has a lot of heavy armor with the ink and white paint job giving it weight. It gives the car a lot more horsepower.

Man, PERFECT subject matter for the DWJ treatment. Gritty and energetic, even if a still shot. Liking Max's kind of forlorn expression. The more and more I see DWJ the more I'm impressed. I need to get one soon! Congrats!

Thanks! I was a bit slow to hop on board the DWJ train as he's not one of the artists I targeted when I started collecting OA last year but I'm fully on board after getting this small sketch.

"My life fades. The vision dims. All that remains are memories. I remember a time of chaos... ruined dreams... this wasted land. But most of all, I remember The Road Warrior. The man we called "Max". To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time... when the world was powered by the black fuel... and the desert sprouted great cities of pipe and steel. Gone now... swept away. For reason long forgotten, two mighty warrior tribes went to war, and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all." - The Feral Kid

I just want to say that even though I'm not a fan of the Science Fiction genre, never cared for this movie and have always hated Mel Gibson loooong before he revealed himself to be a raging anti-semite, this is a lovely little piece of art you got yourself here!
